AN TAISCE STATEMENT FOLLOWING RECOMMENDATION BY SENIOR ARCHITECT OF LIMERICK CITY & COUNTY COUNCIL TO RE-EXAMINE FOOTBRIDGE PROPOSAL
An Taisce is supportive of the recommendation by Ms. Rosie Webb, senior architect for Limerick City & County Council, to re-examine the proposal to build a long span footbridge across the mouth of the Abbey River, in front of the Hunt Museum. Notwithstanding the difficulties it would create for boating navigation, this location is a particularly important one for Limerick City, and any interventions should be sensitive to its very rich heritage.
An Taisce is fully supportive of proposals to improve accessibility and to enhance tourism and river activity so long as there is a thorough, early-stage and meaningful stakeholder consultation. In this regard, we would like to commend Ms. Webb for her recent efforts in putting together the ‘city riverway engage’ events.
An Taisce is committed to working with Limerick City & County Council to help bring about positive and progressive development of Limerick City.
